Long before skyscrapers pierced the sky, the cities of Asia were shaped by hands that never made the headlines. They were the coolies; migrant labourers who laid bricks under the sun by day and gathered over food and drink by night.

Life was hard, work was heavy, but in the simplest rituals they found meaning: a shared meal, a well-earned pour, and a camaraderie that crossed languages, borders and beliefs.
